Hydromite

HYDROMITE is a proprietary and unique oil well cement developed exclusively for the oil patch by USG.

HYDROMITE
Oil Well HYDROMITE is a dry powder which is mixed at the job site with water and an accelerator in the right proportions to form a slurry that can be placed by a dump bailer. Upon setting, it forms a strong, impermeable mass that is highly resistant to solution, erosion and reaction. Unlike many other cementing materials, Oil Well HYDROMITE is generally unaffected by fluids normally encountered in oil wells.

Unique Character Results From Scientific Research

Oil Well HYDROMITE is a carefully compounded mixture of gypsum cement and plastic resin that was developed after thousands of tests. It has a controlled setting time and the positive setting expansion of gypsum, with additional strength and resistance provided by the resin plastic.

This is an ideal combination, because pores in the gypsum body are saturated with inert, bonding resin— and fluids simply cannot seep through. No need for long down-time, waiting for enough strength to develop— with Oil Well HYDROMITE it’s just a matter of minutes until setting occurs.

Setting time is unaffected by normal changes in temperature—Oil Well HYDROMITE is formulated to give reliable setting all the way from freezing to 180F. Under favourable conditions it has been successfully used in wells having temperatures as high as 270F. This rapid, carefully controlled set greatly reduces time between dumps.

Controllable Resin Migration - An outstanding Advantage

After Oil Well HYDROMITE is in place, prior to setting, the water suspended resin phase can be squeezed out. The material can be pumped or easily forced into porous or previous formations with pressure applied by pump or fluid head to produce a permanent seal. High fluidity of the resin means quick, thorough penetration of small pores to an average distance of about 3 inches. After resin migration, the gypsum phase remains in place as a strong, tight plug which can be drilled out. If desired, the sealed-off formation can be reopened at any time with a minimum of time and expense.

Oil Well HYDROMITE may be safely applied in any type of formation. There are no chemicals present which will attack a limestone or dolomitic formation and later loosen and cause failure.
